Book Giveaway: The Heirloom Life Gardener

NOW THAT I’VE FINISHED MY BOOK REVIEW of Jere and Emilee Gettles’ soon to be published book called The Heirloom Life Gardener:*, I’m going to give away (including delivery) a pre-publication copy of the book to a lucky Suburban Hobby Farmer reader. The Heirloom Life Gardener won’t be available in stores until October 4, 2011, so be sure to enter to win.

For those of you who are not familiar with the authors, the Gettles started the successful heirloom seed company Baker Creek. Their new book teaches us how to grow truly amazing heirloom fruits and vegetables that transcend the standard fare normally found in the average backyard garden. Jere has searched the world for seeds from the most unique and tasty heirlooms. The New York Times calls the authors “the face of a movement to bring disappearing vegetables back to the table.”

All you have to do to enter is list your favorite fall vegetable in the comment section below. The deadline for entering your favorite fall vegetable is:

Deadline to enter: 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on August 16, 2011Jere Gettle The Heirloom Life Gardener

I’ll pick one person at random to get the book completely for free. The winner won’t even need to pay for delivery. I’ll announce the winner (and directions for receiving the book) on August 16 at 5 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time in the comment section below.

I like spaghetti squash, which grows well here in the fall.

Spaghetti squash is a great one! Do you ever have problems with squash vine borer? Does growing it in the fall make it so that SVB is not a problem?
